Because the rainy winters are so often brief and always unpredictable in coastal California, I think the shapes of the dramatic gray clouds of an approaching storm are cause for celebration. One never knows how long the rain will last, whether it is the last storm of the season or if there will be more. Varying amounts of light get through and illuminate patches of velvety hills already turning green from previous rains. The crows creep in looking for whatever edible morsels the wind and rain stir up.
