The Desert

While technically all of these subjects were observed in Arizona, the Sonora Desert is shared by California and is part of the Pacific Flyway. Having spent several of my "formative" years in Arizona, I have an appreciation for the desert. It is all sharp lines, light, bright colors and bold shapes. There is nothing subtle about the desert to me. But for anyone who has explored the desert, especially in the winter or spring, it contains more than a few surprises. Southeast Arizona in particular holds a variety of island ecosystems in a relatively small area, and is considered by many to be the hummingbird capital of the U.S.
