Water

Water is life. It is holy. It is the primary element comprising the human body and it's what makes the earth so unique. It is a powerful, life-giving force on many levels. Freshwater, saltwater, wetlands, rain...this is what makes this planet so precious. I love to watch water, the way it moves, the way it reflects light and turns everything into abstraction. I love to watch the birds that are adapted to a life on it or near it. When I paint them I am weaving their shapes, patterns and colors into a tapestry of wavy lines of reflected light and color. While this group of paintings is not a departure from the compositions in the rest of my body of work, it amazes me how different these paintings feel when compared to my forest pieces or the more traditional landscapes. I don't know that I could ever live far from the ocean or some great body of water. I could paint only water and I doubt I would run out of inspiration. The variety of colors, patterns and moods is endless.
