Saltwater wetlands

Where the ocean meets the land in bays, estuaries and saltwater wetlands, where tides flow in and out twice a day, there is an astonishing abundance of life. These places, Bolsa Chica and Upper Newport Bay in particular, are where my reconnection birds (and all they mean to me) began. As so much life on this planet has poured forth from, has been given its shape in these habitats, so something incredible was reborn in me upon my discovery of these magical places. I am endlessly drawn to, in awe of the sizes and shapes of shorebirds and their intensely patterned feathers; the sizes, shapes and color of all the tough, small plants unique to saltwater wetlands; and to the sensuality of the mud shaped by the constant ebb and flow of the tides.
