Portraits
Sometimes there is no better way to depict a bird, to say something about its character or the way it looks than with what I call a portrait. This can be a simple and direct closeup with minimal environment or it can be more of a natural setting indiciative of the behavior of the species. While a first look at this page may seem like an eclectic group of subjects (raptors, waterfowl, a heron, a passerine and gulls!), these compositional elements of these pieces tie into the same themes of lines, shapes, patterns, gestures, abstraction, complexity and simplicity that can be found in all of my work.
